Breathwork Vs Shamanic Breathwork explained.

How they are different?

I didn’t feel completely comfortable putting a “versus” in the title. Breathwork is an incredible modality—and whether there’s a shamanic aspect involved or not, it’s still deeply powerful. You are still going to be doing meaningful inner work, connecting with your breath, and accessing your own innate healing intelligence.

However, as a Shamanic Breathwork facilitator, I felt it was appropriate to write about some of the subtle differences and how each experience can offer its own kind of transformation.

For me, Breathwork is energy work—as are shamanic practices. So combining these two modalities creates a potent container for healing, insight, and transformation.

What is Breathwork?
At its core, Breathwork refers to any conscious use of the breath to shift energy, emotion, or awareness. There are many forms—some gentle, some intense—and all are designed to bring you into the present moment, unlock stuck energy, and allow the body to release what it no longer needs. Breathwork can support emotional release, clarity, nervous system regulation, and a deeper connection to self.

What Makes Shamanic Breathwork Different?
Shamanic Breathwork includes all of the above—and then adds a layer of intuitive guidance, energetic tuning in, and sacred ritual. As a facilitator, I’m not just holding space for the breath, but actively working with your energy field, supporting soul-level shifts and using shamanic tools such as sound, drumming, rattle, and energy clearing.

Sessions are often held in a sacred space, allowing you to connect with your inner world, higher guidance, ancestral wisdom, or archetypal energies. People often report feeling like they’ve gone on a journey—not just emotionally or mentally, but spiritually and energetically too.

So Which One is Right for You?
Both are powerful. Both are healing. If you feel called to explore your inner world, let go of what no longer serves, or reconnect with your body and spirit—either path will support you. Shamanic Breathwork may feel more like a guided spiritual journey, while other forms of Breathwork may offer a more structured or therapeutic approach.

There is no right or wrong—just what resonates with you in this moment.

Breath is the bridge between your body and your spirit. Whether you walk that bridge with a drumbeat, a quiet space, or deep intuitive presence—you are coming home to yourself. And that, truly, is the gift.
